Crazy Bear Thai Restaurant — Beaconsfield

Whilst staying at the Crazy Bear Hotel, it made sense to have dinner at their Thai Restaurant. Let me clarify from the beginning that there are no halal options here. I phoned a week in advance but as all their meat is from their farm in Stadhampton it wasn’t possible to source. Given the vast fish and vegetarian options I went ahead and booked a table for my husband and I.

The restaurant has got a great vibe and loosely follows the decor of the actual hotel. We ordered a variety of things:

Best Dish: Shanghai Hot and Sour Soup £8.95 . It was so good, even in warm weather. Really spicy and zingy…shame I had to share it with the husband!

Recommended: Vegetable Pad Thai £9.95 — This baby was wrapped inside an omelette..how cute, although I couldn’t eat the omelette – not sure I’m supposed to? Seemed a bit of a waste though. However it was a traditional Pad Thai cooked perfectly.

Avoid: Eggplant Penang Curry £12.95 — Half a cooked aubergine which looked like a steak covered in red curry sauce..we both looked at it and thought whattt?!! Who can eat half a humungous aubergine? Not me! We were expecting aubergine pieces in a curry and barely ate any of this. Eww.

Disappointing: Stir Fried Semi Dry Tiger Prawns £18.95 — Lots of prawns in an ok masala sauce but it was a dry dish and lacked any oomph. The prawns didn’t taste as fresh as they should have.

Drinks: A good choice of mocktails (£7.95) are available including a very substandard mango lassi. The Appleberry mocktail was a hit though, sweet and fizzy in a huge glass.

Service: Top notch, despite it being a busy Saturday night.

The food was very average for the price and I probably wouldn’t go again. Having said that, perhaps the meat options are better!

Halal Status: No halal meat available. Alcohol: Y. Pork:Y
Address: Old Town, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire HP9 1LX
Parking: Small carpark in front of the hotel. Nearest Train Station: Beaconsfield.
Cost: £££ Over £50 per person includes starter, main, side, a drink and service. Set Menu starts from £29.50 – £62.50 per person. Look out for Groupon offers.
