Boringdon Hall Hotel — Plymouth

On a quest to spend some quality time together and celebrate my husband’s birthday we decided to spend a couple of days in Devon. A quick internet search returned the Boringdon Hall Hotel website and immediately I knew it was the one. Don’t be deceived by the name, Boringdon Hotel is far from what its name may suggest. Set in gorgeous green surroundings in Plymouth, Boringdon Hotel is a very English, regal style 5* hotel. The building is centuries old and the decor is has been designed to give you that stately feel. From a real log fire in the lounge to the paintings of old monarchs on the wall, this is a beautifully decorated English manor with a lot of history behind it.

We spent one night in the Royal Suite which was a really lovely experience. Some of the awesome things in the Royal Suite are a huge bathroom, complimentary chocolates, Playstation 3, free mini bar, free Wifi and a huge private hot tub on the terrace.

The staff and service are top notch, and we couldn’t really fault it. I had phoned in advance and asked them if they could provide a halal option at their Gallery restaurant. When we got there the manager hadn’t got the message and was really annoyed at the Reception staff. Anyhow he profoundly apologised so many times that I forgave Boringdon pretty quickly. The manager also tried to accommodate us as much as he could, creating my salmon dish without the white wine sauce, and serving my husband’s vegetarian ravioli starter as main as the main course choices were limited. The food was beautifully served and presented, and lived up to its fine dining description.  The hotel also does an Afternoon Tea, but sadly we didn’t stay long enough. One annoyance was having to pay an extra £20 for an extended two-hour checkout, which is standard with most hotels but annoying nevertheless.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a special weekend away, or a just to visit the hotel for Afternoon Tea  if you’re in Plymouth.
