Thorpe Park – Egham, Surrey
Adrenalin junkies look no further. Thorpe Park is the ideal place for thrill seekers, and those wanting a fun and exciting day out. Really, it is that good. There are a number of great rides that are in a league of their own compared to those at other theme parks nearby such as Chessington or Legoland.
Here are my highlights of the day:
1) Stealth – Nothing can compare to this jaw-dropping roller coaster which in essence only lasts twenty seconds or so. The sheer speed of this ride, 0-80mph in less than 2 seconds, is phenomenal. You have to see it to believe it. The numerous clips on YouTube don’t do it justice. The speed really makes this ride stand out from the rest. The almost 180 degree drop isn’t too bad either.
2) Saw – The Ride – An awesome roller coaster, which is enhanced by all the unexpected, drops, twists and turns. Sitting in the first row, really intensifies the experience. My head did jerk around, when I sat at the front but it was worth it! Definitely not for the faint hearted.
3) Detonator – This is similar to the Oblivion ride at Alton Towers, where you have one free fall drop. It’s less than 5 seconds, but it makes you feel like your heart has been left 100 feet high at the top and your body descended to the ground. It’s fast, it’s furious and frankly quite disturbing. But definitely worth going on once for the experience. Or twice if you’re a glutton for punishment, like me.
There are lots of other attractions which are worth mentioning like Colossus – 10 loop roller coaster, Samurai – 360 degree spinning ride with forces of 5G and Nemesis Inferno – a lovable head spinning roller coaster.
All in all would thoroughly recommend this for all who can bear sitting on extreme roller coasters. Not ideal for young children as a lot of the rides have height restrictions of 1.3 and 1.4 metres. There are some childish rides and a small beach area which is kind of sweet for the little ones.
Tip of the day – have a very light lunch.
