Top 10 Beauty Products of 2018

This year I realised I have too much makeup and not enough skin care so 2018 was a year where I decided to give my skin the TLC that it so desperately needed. But I’m not stupid and I know good skin doesn’t just come from what you put on your skin, but also what you put in to your body. Taking a more holistic approach to beauty meant introducing more fruit & vegetables into my diet and doing some exercise. Whether it be a jog in the park or a 7-min workout at home or a Zumba class I’ve consciously tried to be more active. I’m still not doing as much as I would like but I’m getting there slowly!

Forgoing make up when I don’t really need to wear it has happened a few times recently to allow my skin ‘to breathe’. Going out without makeup is actually liberating in many ways…that is until you bump into someone you know. Anyway I digress. I’ve been through a fair few products this year and have made a list of my top 10 favourite beauty products that I would 100% recommend and purchase again. The great thing is a lot of these are on sale right now, so cheaper than the price I’ve listed!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate — from £38

This is a very well-known and much-loved facial oil in beauty circles but is it as good as everyone says? Well firstly get a sample from a Kiehl’s counter and give it a go. The sample is generous so you can use it for a good five days on your face before going to bed and see if it suits you. For me it made my skin plumper the first time I used it —younger looking and smoother. As I’ve been using it for a few weeks now I notice I wake up looking less rough than I used to! For me, that’s a great result.

Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara — £15.60

I have to admit I’m not really a mascara person. I only used to wear mascara for special occasions but in recent years it makes an appearance in my daily makeup kit. This Urban Decay Mascara is not only thickening but elongating at the same time. It can be a little clumpy at times but the finished look is brilliant with only a couple of applications required. It’s not waterproof but is water-resistant so won’t smudge when you wash your face for wudu!

NYX Matte Eyeliner — £8.00

This is the only liquid eyeliner I’ve worn this year. I’m onto my third one and have no plans to use anything else. I love it because the brush is thin and great for precision and winged eyeliner. The eyeliner stays on, doesn’t smudge or leave those black specks after 8 hours of wear. And it’s a high street brand so super affordable.

Keep your eye game strong with these must-haves!

Tigi Urban Antidotes Shampoo & Conditioner — £14.80

I bought these from Costco on a whim after my niece told me this is what her hairdresser uses! I love the smell of the range (smells like sweets) and when used together, my hair comes out really soft. I’m loving this shampoo and conditioner, the best thing is the bottles are huge (750ml) so they last ages. This range is labelled as ‘Rehab for Hair’ so if your hair is dry or damaged or just generally a bit crazy like mine then try Urban Antidotes.

Kérastase Chronologiste Perfumed En Huile— £28.69

My best friend gave this to me as a gift and I love her for introducing it to me. It’s like a serum and oil in one and I use it on dry hair to give it a shine and eliminate a bit of frizz. Not only is the bottle beautiful (yes I care about these things) the product smells AMAZING. The bottle is massive and will last you forever, as a little goes a long way.

Cantu Shea Butter Hair Activator — £7.49

For a curly-haired lass like me frizz is the bane of my life. This product is a game changer! I wish I’d discovered it in my twenties! You apply a little bit to sectioned hair after you’ve washed it. It has a cream consistency but works a bit like a mousse. It gives definition to my waves and actually reduces the frizz by 80%. Again a little goes a long way…the best thing about Cantu is that the effects last for a few days! It also smells gorgeous.

No7 Perfect and Protect Intense — Advanced Facial Sun Protection — £15

Given the hot hot hot summer we had, every woman MUST wear sunscreen. It’s the best kept non-secret in the beauty business — quite simply to delay the signs of ageing keep your face out of the sun! I love the No7 Perfect and Protect Intense because it comes in SPF 30 and 50 (I use this one) and absorbs quickly unlike many suncreams. It’s not too greasy, it sits well underneath my moisturising cream. Look out for No7 money off vouchers and 3 for 2 deals in Boots.

The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% — £5.50

First of all let me tell you I have sensitive combination skin which means that I need to use a lot of different kind of creams depending on the season & occasion. The Ordinary Azelaic Acid 10% is a great daily moisturising cream that I use every morning. I love the way this cream glides on to my skin. It’s thick without being greasy and actually feels weightless. With this cream you have to use sunscreen as the acid makes your skin more vulnerable to the sun. If you have really dry skin, then you might need something more moisturising for the winter when the skin gets super dry. I’m onto my third tube as it only lasts me a month, but that’s ok because it’s so affordable.

Nip+Fab Glycolic Cleansing Fix — £7.95

Nip+Fab is a great innovative beauty brand which everyone can afford. The brand really knows its stuff and is on trend with the latest beauty crazes. However with so many product ranges it’s hard to know what will suit you as I’ve tried a few and not everything worked for me. The Glycolic Overnight Gel didn’t work for me but the Glycolic Cleansing Fix is being really kind to my skin. It removes makeup and leaves the skin looking clean and thoroughly cleansed. The glycolic acid smooths out fine lines and wrinkles too. It doesn’t dry out the skin which is great and at this price it doesn’t break the bank. Nip+Fab sell some of their products in larger Boots & Superdrug often with offers, but the website also has flash sales.

Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix

Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Scrub — £9.95

Finding a good scrub is not easy. I absolutely love this Nip & Fab Glycolic Scrub as it does what it says. Scrubs and cleans your skin without being too harsh. Although it’s quite gritty and grainy, it doesn’t hurt! The best way to apply a scrub is before bed, or in the shower after the steam has had an effect on your skin. I use it about 2-3 times a week and after each usage my skin definitely looks clearer. Follow this with a mask once a week, I’ve yet to find a mask that’s wowed me…any ideas?
